Flower Council of Ukraine presents social project “Our courtyard is our green home”
Residents of tree apartment complexes with common courtyard approached the Flower Council of Ukraine with a proposal to create a social project for its effective landscaping. The project will be implemented in stages by the residents of the apartment complexes, who are financing and supporting the project, and will take care of flowers and plants in the future. The Council will help residents with the project on all stages and will record its progres.
Modern housing construction projects, building companies cut their expenses in landscaping. They prefer ineffective, expensive and difficult to care for lawns that have almost no significant impact on the psycho-emotional state of a human being.
What’s the project objective?
Our objective is to show that harmonizing our space is important and possible through collective efforts, despite today's challenges. Landscaping of courtyards of residential areas will create a recreational resource not only for the residents but for every one in a community who wants to maintain daily contact with nature.
First stage and what to do next?
At the first stage of this project, a group of active residents was created and responsibilities distributed. The Flower Council of Ukraine found the first sponsor for the project - landscaping company, Beloded Landscaping, that specializes in urban landscaping. Beloded Landscaping developed the general plan for the landscaping of the courtyard. Along with its approval, most of the plants for the project were selected.
Next at the first stage are the irrigation system and planting the first batch of trees.
The main challenge of the project is that the landscaping territory is the roof of the underground parking lot. Therefore, all plants were carefully selected to accommodate the thin soil layer. Mostly its enduring trees with lateral root systems, shrubs and grasses.
More than a thousand plants are needed to plant a large courtyard of the three apartment complexes.
More than a thousand units of plants are needed to plant a large area around three buildings. Therefore, in order to partially solve the problem with the project budget, a temporary mini-nursery will be organized on part of the territory, so that in a few years there will be adult and ready-to-plant shrubs and grasses.
Why is this project so important right now?
During this war people are prone to forget the importance of every bit of comfort that they can get in their everyday life. We constantly feel guilty and have to deal with financial obstacles. Now more than ever, people are in a state of anxiety, depression, emotional and mental instability.
A person's psycho-emotional health needs constant attention: fresh air, communication, flowers, trees and plants - this is the harmonization of the living space, the importance of which is difficult to overestimate in our situation. It is because of this that we believe that it is necessary to create and implement projects aimed at improving the environment, such as courtyard landscaping, the collective work on these projects, and the subsequent result, will have a positive effect not only on the people involved in it, but also on a whole community.
